~ But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

Hi,
michelle pavliksaid:
Hi, my husband and I listen to you pretty regularly. we attend a sovereign grace church and tehy are having a nominating committee for he deacons. we are a bit confused as the teaching is that the scripture teaches that deacons are to be married men. we do not see this….waht are you thoughts? I am seeing the text teaching on spiritual maturity as the the issue in I timothy..no twhether a man is married…or has children for that matter….if this is the criteria…then isn’t Christ Himself excluded from any leadership on this basis?
we wlecome your thoughts.

Your first sentence indicates that you might have mistaken me for someone else. Sorry.
As far as the qualifications for a deacon listed in chapter 3, I believe in verse 12 the Scripture teaches not that he must be married, but that if he is married it would be only to ONE woman.
